Senior Cost Accountant

This is a great opportunity for a CPA, or someone who has nearly completed their CPA, and has worked in manufacturing, coming with a strong familiarity of cost accounting. Reporting into the Accounting Manager and working with a strong team, this is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a challenging role with strong work/life balance in a hybrid environment.
Main Responsibilities
Managing accounting records with a strong focus on manufacturing costing and general accounting
Oversee the costing systems to ensure that material, labour and overhead are allocated properly to all stock codes.
Prepare Cost per Unit (CPU) reports to support the manufacturing plants and provide recommendations to improve efficiencies and ways to lower costs.
Review the monthly financial statements of the manufacturing plants and analyze the monthly variance reports to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the results.
Prepare, analyze, and execute reports and processes required to complete the global cost updates.
Perform quarterly global cost updates for all stock codes in all companies.
Review and reclassify the WIP variances that were below the threshold and were automatically posted during the month.
Demonstrated ability to build strong and trusting relationships with managers, employees and peers
Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in an easily understood manner tailoring the communication to diverse audiences to facilitate understanding
Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work within established deadlines and time constraints

Experience
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience within at least 3 years working in a dynamic manufacturing environment
Minimum 3 years of dedicated cost accounting experience, especially in manufacturing job costing, standard cost, and variance analysis
Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with senior business leaders, with a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing operations
Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills, with a strong ability to measure and communicate financial performance, particularly in manufacturing cost analysis
Proven track record as a key member of a high-performance accounting team in a manufacturing setting
Good working knowledge of IFRS and ASPE an asset but not required
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree, Accounting/Business major is preferable
Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent), or late stage student
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered

Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain the company’s system of accounts for all property management functions.
Review, analyze and evaluate performance of properties in comparison to budget and historical data.
Review and distribute the monthly property financial statements to property managers and corporate accounting and senior management team.
Review and answer questions on monthly financial statements to senior management.
Participate and contribute important financial information in the monthly managerial meetings.

Manage the preparation of annual budgets (operating and capital) with accounting staff and property managers to ensure timely delivery of annual rental notices to tenants.
Responsible for the annual property audits and work very closely with senior property accountants and our external auditor or other auditors until completion.
Provide accounting support for property acquisitions, dispositions and the due diligence process.
Qualifications include:
CPA designation, a recognized graduate degree in finance or business is preferred.
Strong analytical, technology, leadership, management and communications skills.
10 years of experience in accounting or finance, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior management role preferably in the real estate industry.
Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, be familiar with Property Management Accounting and should have held positions of increasing responsibility in accounting.
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop solid and lasting business relationships and the ability to provide accurate and timely information to executive management are key.
